Diamond Park

Butler, Pa. 16001

Diamond Park

Diamond Park was the first part of Butler established by settlers. The first log cabins were built here. Blacksmiths, artisans, and primitive taverns set up shop in the square.

The park once included a hotel called the Nixon. Today, the NexTier Bank Building overlooks the Diamond with its reflective glass.

The Diamond is now ready for its next renaissance. The public square will be the ideal spot for transformation.

The Courthouse

One of the most splendid courthouses in Pennsylvania, this Gothic Romanesque building is the third courthouse to be built in the same location. It dates back to 1885!

It was expanded to add a larger courtroom in 1907. James P. Bailey, who designed notable structures on the Slippery Rock University campus, was the architect behind our courthouse. A "Bridge of Sighs" connects to the government building in the rear of the building.
